Understanding Your Workspace
Your workspace is your company. Learn what lives inside it, how to switch between workspaces when you belong to more than one, and the two minutes of setup worth doing early.
Your workspace is the top level of Northflow Flux. It represents your company, and everything else you create lives inside it. This article covers what a workspace contains, how to move between workspaces when you belong to more than one, and the settings worth configuring once.
You already have a workspace. It was created when you signed up, so there is nothing to set up before you start.
What a workspace is
A workspace represents one company or organization.
If you are a solo creator, that is just you. If you run an agency or a network, your workspace holds your whole team, and everyone you invite lands here. See Inviting Team Members for how to bring people in.
Everything you build in Northflow Flux sits inside a workspace: your spaces, your projects, your documents, your files, and your members.
What lives inside a workspace
A workspace is a container, not a place where work happens directly. The structure nests like this:
Workspace: your company
Spaces: one body of work each, such as a show, a client, or a team
Projects: usually one episode, sitting inside a space
Stages and tasks: the production pipeline inside a project
Most of your day is spent two or three levels down. The workspace itself is mainly about who has access and how things are branded. If the difference between a project and the space it lives in isn't clear yet, see Projects vs. Spaces: What's the Difference?
Switching between workspaces
Look at the top left corner of the screen. Your workspace name is there, with a small arrow next to it.
Click it and you will see every workspace you belong to, with a checkmark next to the one you are currently in. Select any other workspace to switch.
You may end up in more than one workspace without ever creating a second yourself. Two common reasons:
You consult for another company and they invite you into theirs
You are part of someone else's network and they add you to it
Each workspace is completely separate. Members, spaces, projects, and settings do not carry across. Someone in one of your workspaces cannot see anything in another.
Creating a second workspace
If you need a workspace of your own, open the same menu at the top left and choose Create workspace at the bottom.
Most people never need this. Before creating one, check whether a space would solve the problem instead. Spaces already keep clients and shows separate inside a single workspace, and they are easier to manage.
Create a second workspace when the work belongs to a genuinely different company, with a different team and different billing.
The Create button
Directly below your workspace name is the Create button. It is worth committing to memory.
It gives you four options:
Project: usually one episode
Space: a container for one show, client, or team
Contact: a guest, client, or collaborator
Reminder: a nudge for yourself or a teammate
You can start any of these from anywhere in the product without navigating somewhere first. It is the fastest path to everything.
Workspace settings
Your workspace name, your logo, and your general setup all live in one place.
Click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar
Choose Workspace from the settings menu
Update your workspace name and any other details
Your changes save automatically
This takes about two minutes. Set it once and you will not think about it again.
Each workspace has its own settings. If you belong to more than one, changing the name in one has no effect on the others.
